The Law on Employee Inventions in the United States
In the US, the inventor must register the invention and then transfer it to his employer by a so-called â€śassignment" or declaration of transfer.
The inventor only receives generally a nominal amount of one US dollar for its trouble. Other compensation is not provided for; but some companies pay a voluntary inventor premium.
After the transfer, the employer has the choice of how to handle the application and does not have to inform the inventor of the progress of the examination procedure.
